Child In Need Uganda was created by the Hansen family from the state of Utah (USA), along with an orphaned man from Uganda named Komodo Hadji. Kevin Hansen and his wife Ann, along with Jeff (Kevin’s brother) and his wife Suzie, met Komodo at Emmaus School when they experienced their first Safari trip to Africa in 2017. The Hansens learned the Emmaus school was in need of a permanent kitchen as they had been preparing food outdoors over an open fire.

The Hansen brothers raised the funds to build a kitchen for the Emmaus School, and traveled to Uganda to start the project, using their buillding skills as construction company owners.

When the project was complete, the Hansens returned to the United States, but the beautiful children they had come to know in Uganda, remained in their hearts, and they stayed in touch with Komodo Hadji.

In 2020, Ann and Komodo had the idea of starting a charity organization to help the orphans and other vulnerable kids in need on a continual basis. The organization started with five children and has now grown to twenty. We hope to continue to expand.

WHAT WE DO

We believe every child deserves the best chance in life. We help the vulnerable and orphaned obtain nutritious meals each day, gain an education, receive needed healthcare, and meet their basic needs, allowing for a promising future. Along with the provided healthcare, we also administer support to the victims of HIV/AIDS of all ages, and the most vulnerable families in the community.

WHERE WE WORK

Child In Need Uganda operates in Kizigo village, Lugazi Municipality, Buikwe District, Uganda Africa. There, we carry out our mission to improve the quality of life and level of happiness for the orphans and greater community.

MEET OUR TEAM

DIRECTOR - KOMODO HADJI

After the death of his father in 2000, Komodo grew up in the destitute family of his granduncle in Kizigo village. Because he was an orphan, he was given the chance to receive an education through a charity organization called, World In Need Uganda (WIN), which later changed its name to, Caritas. Within this organization, Komodo completed high school in 2008. For seven long years afterward, he tried to earn enough money to join a tertiary school, to learn a vocation or to attend a university.

In 2015, Komodo finally obtained enough money to extend his education, and he chose to join a vocation school. Komodo studied Motor Vehicle Technicians (M.V.T) at Spear Motors Limited Apprenticeship Training Center Nakawa. Today, Komodo is a qualified motor vehicle engineer, as well as an artist.

Because of Komodo’s personal experience of the importance of gaining an education, he decided to pay it forward by assisting orphaned children like himself. So, he established this organization to help change lives.

ADMINISTRATOR - KIGGUNDU ALEX

Komodo’s brother, Alex, was born in 1994. At age six, his father died and he was taken to live with his grandmother in Kizigo village. There, Alex grew up in an extended family situation among a challenging and diverse group of people, where he faced many hardships.

Alex was fortunate to receive an education through the charity organization called, World in Need (WIN), which today is, Caritas. Alex majored in Mass communication during his vocation school in 2015. However, he could not complete his final year due to the absence of school fees.

In 2017 Alex joined Mandela FM as a radio presenter, and spent two years with the station in Jinja town. Today, Alex works hand in hand with our charity organization, Child in Need Uganda, to counsel children who have lost parents, who are raised in the extended family settings, or who remain on streets.
